Why choose pine furniture for your shop?

Wood, this living material that we love so much, we take care of it, and we do everything we can to sublimate it without distorting it. We appreciate its touch, its smell and its imperfections which make all its charm. But it's not easy to find your way among the many species of wood and their particularities: lighter, softer, more resistant wood, etc. All of them have their advantages depending on the type of use you want to make of them.

At Tradis, we have chosen to promote solid pine, more precisely Sylvester pine, and we explain why.

But first of all, here's a little tip to recognize solid wood: you have to rely on the grain of the wood (its fibres). There must be the same continuity on all faces and especially at the corners, otherwise it is a wood veneered panel! Be careful, this technique can sometimes be perfectly imitated by decoration techniques.

Favouring forests under sustainable management

Pine is an abundant and very common species in Europe and as a result many farms are already organised in renewable and sustainable forest management. Our aim was to source from FSC and PEFC labelled sawmills to ensure that we have the least possible impact on the planet's resources. This is why our workshop is located a few kilometres from the pine forests, for a reduced carbon impact. Read more about the PEFC label here.

More economical and lighter

Because of its important presence on the European continent, Pine is a more affordable species compared to Oak or other rarer varieties. Choosing this species of wood was an obvious choice for Tradis to be able to make quality and durable furniture accessible to our customers.

The other advantage of pine is its weight. In fact, being softer and having a low density, it is lighter, making furniture made from this variety easier to move around, which is not negligible at the right time.

A natural resistance to insects and fungi

Pine is one of the naturally rot-proof softwood species. This means that it is naturally resistant to insect and fungal attack. No need to spray them with any kind of chemical products, they take care of it themselves unlike other species such as birch or beech for example.

A stable and durable species

Pine is a stable species that is recognized and widely acclaimed for its durability. Who has never heard of the great-grandmother's wardrobe that is passed down from generation to generation? Pine has a good resistance to temperature variations and can last several decades if it is well maintained. Moreover, it is very easy to care for: regular dusting with a damp cloth is all it takes. You can also add a coat of oil or varnish to reinforce its protection.

A design for all tastes

A significant advantage of Sylvester pine is its aesthetic appeal. Its light colour allows it to match all styles of decoration: vintage, contemporary, baroque... The fibres that make up its thread are straight and intertwine with discreet and harmonious knots making each piece of furniture unique. Its grain is fine, opening the door to all kinds of creativity in terms of finishes.
