Interview with the Cave des Gourmands Gourmets

From Reunion Island to the Cave des Gourmands Gourmets, discover the journey of two lovers of flavours.

How was the project born?

After ten years on Reunion Island, we wanted to return to mainland France. As we were approaching forty, we wanted to shake up our daily lives and change. We therefore concentrated on our desires and our knowledge. Thanks to a passion passed on by our winegrower and shopkeeper parents, we wanted to open a winery to rediscover the contact with people that we didn't necessarily have with our former jobs. And as with many conversions, we said to ourselves: "if we don't do it now, we'll never do it".

As we are great gourmets and like to discover new flavours, the name of the Cave des Gourmands Gourmets came quite naturally

We want to mix travel and flavours

What is the concept of your shop?

We wanted a shop with two distinct parts: one focused on delicatessen and the other on the world of wine. On the delicatessen side, we put forward many regional and Provençal products, but we also offer a Reunionese section with spices and arranged rum, to testify to our 10 years spent on the island. Our wish is to make our customers want to travel with a range of Italian products.

As for the wine cellar, it's more or less the same principle. Half of our references are wines from the Rhône Valley, the other half represent wines from all the other regions of France. In addition, there is a range of alcohol and spirits.

layout furniture

Did you already have in mind the layout you wanted before you started?

Our business has a total surface area of 50m² divided into two equal parts for the delicatessen and wine cellar. In order to make progress on our layout project, we visited many wine cellars to understand how they were organised and what furniture was used. We also did some research on the internet to get inspiration and compare the different possibilities available to us. We wanted a simple and uncluttered shop layout that would attract our future customers with a friendly concept.

For the wine area, we sought advice from wine cellar design professionals who helped us with the layout and lighting to find a solution that suited our products.

How did you discover TRADIS furniture and what did you like about it?

We looked at many pictures of wine cellars and delicatessens on the internet and quickly came across the Tradis website. The furniture corresponded perfectly with what we were looking for: conviviality, simplicity and the style of the region. The "Our work" section helped us in our choice of colours, furniture selection and product presentation.

Are you satisfied with the purchase of your TRADIS furniture?

We are very satisfied with the order! The customer service department was very responsive and listened to us after we requested several quotes. The delivery went very well. The delays were a bit long but that was understandable given the period and the situation in which we are currently living. The main thing is that Tradis respected the deadlines and we received the furniture on time before the opening.
